“Biodiversity Policy” identifies the companies expressed commitment to ensure the comprehensive and credible management of biodiversity risks within its operations to ensure seamless project development and operation and attainment of a global leadership position for biodiversity conservation.
BMPs are intended to assist these companies develop, implement and monitor biodiversity actions to:
Ensure no-net loss of biodiversity in situations where natural habitats that contain threatened, protected, endemic and migratory/ congregator species, are converted or degraded; and
Avoid any conversion or degradation of Critical Habitats.
Objectives:
•Avoid and or reduce impacts to biodiversity.
•Provide for the progressive ecological restoration of mine-altered sites in a manner which restores biodiversity and associated ecosystem services.
•Attempt to result in a long-term net-gain in targeted biodiversity components from pre-mine conditions
•Provide opportunities for community engagement in BMP implementation activities, such as on-site and off-site ecological restoration, adoption of more biodiversity friendly livelihoods and community outreach.
