Self Financed JUTE BAG MAKING UNIT in Ranchi since 2010

With 15 artisans from the deprived society
The Centre
Working with various women SHGs in the rural areas and training them with several handicraft products under various Schemes of DC(Handicrafts), National Jute Board, NABARD, TRIFED to name a few, a small Jute handicraft unit with the name of Chotanagpur Crafts was incepted in 2010 and looking into the needs of the market, focused on making Jute bags, folders, file covers and other accessories by giving hand-on skill development training to local tribal women, including deaf and dumb people.
Today, there are almost 15 artisans engaged in the unit/shed of about 1000 sq ft and the products are being marketed in various trade fairs and exhibitions organised by DC Handicrafts, TRIFED etc. and also being supplied to different institutions. Thus, helping them in enhancing their incomes.

The Chotanagpur Crafts unique showroom at Sainik Bazar, Main Road, Ranchi, showcases the best of the handcrafted pieces of crafts from Jharkhand. Be it Jute crafts, woolen durries, dokra craft, lac or bamboo arte facts.
The Products
Today with the help of the skill development programs, the women members are fully trained in the craft of Jute bag making, including finishing and timely execution of the orders, as per the clients’ needs. They have absorbed the skill of colour selection, design and market potential of the products to deliver unique products. Their incomes have also increased simultaneously. Thus giving them confidence and self-recognition. Today, more and more women are keen to join in looking into the success of the journey.

CCDS is widening livelihood options, as one of the key adopted strategies, both farm and non-farm sectors for reducing poverty in the remote underdeveloped tribal pockets of Jharkhand. Popularization of sustainable agriculture practices, conservation of natural resources, promotion of people’s organization like Self-help group (SHG), farmers group, primary producers groups and their federations, facilitation of people’s access to microfinance and government schemes, enhancement of market linkages and provision of skill-building support for promotion of off and non-farm micro enterprise/ social enterprise are some of the key elements in this pursuit
Our
footprints
At present, CCDS is working in 12 districts of Jharkhand. Out of 12 districts, CCDS has effective presence in 6 districts of Jharkhand namely Ranchi, Lohardaga, Gumla, Simdega, Bokaro, East Singhbhum & Khunti where multi-dimensional development programme have been implemented.
In the rest of the 4 districts, namely West Singhbhum, Deoghar, Dhanbad, Latehar, the organization has significant presence in craft development and promotion activities.
