The Jute Production Centre, Gumla, also known as the Cluster Facilitation Centre (CFC), Gumla, was established through the Mukhya Mantri Laghu Evam Kutir Udyam Vikas Board, Jharkhand in 2024. The centre was allocated to Chotanagpur Craft Development Society (CCDS) for promoting jute-based livelihood and enterprise development. Around 50 women and men artisans are associated with the centre and jointly undertake jute production activities. The artisans are engaged in manufacturing a variety of eco-friendly and value-added jute products. These include jute bags, shopping bags, handicrafts, decorative items and other utility products. The centre provides a common platform for artisans to develop their skills and improve product quality and finishing. CCDS supports the artisans in production, product development, packaging, quality improvement and marketing. The initiative promotes the use of sustainable and environmentally friendly jute products as an alternative to plastic-based products. The products manufactured at the centre are marketed and sold through the CCDS outlet. This provides artisans with an important market linkage and helps increase the visibility of their products. The centre also promotes women's participation, employment generation and livelihood enhancement among local artisans. Overall, the CFC Gumla is contributing to skill development, rural employment, artisan empowerment, sustainable production and promotion of jute-based enterprises.
